The Top 7 Quotes from Red Band Society’s Episode 2

“You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” – Winnie the Pooh

You probably weren’t ready for  a Winnie the Pooh quote to pop up in a Red Band Society episode, but man did it work!one republic

Last night’s episode was….hard. Overall it was just HARD. And heartbreaking. And inspiring. And all we want to do is watch it again.

No one will argue that Red Band Society has some of the best lines of any show on TV right now, so we figured the best way to recap the episode would be through quotes.

Here are the top 7 quotes of last night’s second episode!

“Some shoes are harder to walk in than others.”

Coma boy, as Charlie is now fondly known, let out this piece of wisdom right at the beginning of the episode. It is meant both literally and as a metaphor. In the literal sense, Coma boy said this because Leo is having a really hard time walking in his new prosthetic leg and he’s giving up on it a little. As a metaphor, this just means that everyone is trying to understand what Jordi is going through as he goes in for his surgery, but they’re all having a hard time with it.

“One of the hardest things in a hospital is to have someone else get the same exact thing you wanted.”

And here comes a major spoiler alert if you didn’t watch last night’s episode — Jordi didn’t have his leg removed. Don’t jump for happiness yet, because it’s not for a good reason. For the most of the episode no one really knows how bad Jordi is and this leads Leo to be misled by the fact that Jordi got to keep his leg, but he didn’t. Cue some crazy partying.  (Leo and Dash end up breaking out of the hospital because of this and getting a little bit wasted at a frat party across the street from the hospital. Unbelievable, right? You’d actually be surprised)

“I used to think your soul was black, but now it’s more of a charcoal gray.”

Opening up when all you know is how to keep the walls up is hard. Emma and Cara experienced this first hand yesterday, but for the first time since this show started we were able to peak into Cara, the person and not just Cara, the cheerleader. She’s not so bad after all.

“Sometimes the longest mile is the one you walk alone.”

MAN. Red Band Society’s writers deserve a major award for all these awesome lines. When this line is narrated by Coma Boy it’s right after the hot doc has told Jordi that his cancer has spread and that he’ll need more chemo before they can reassess his situation. (For those who need a little catching up, Jordi = newbie to the hospital, who crossed the border alone to get medical help. He has no one but himself) After hot doc lets Jordi in on the truth, he asks him if there’s anyone Jordi wants him to call. Jordi says no.

“You can’t run away from your life. It’s yours, it’s precious.”

Nurse Jackson may not be the nicest at times, but there’s no way to question her love for all of the Red Band Society. After Leo makes it back to the hospital, he has a semi-drunk conversation with Nurse Jackson. He shares that he hasn’t wanted to use the prosthetic leg because it’s just one big reminder that this is all real. NJ reminds him that he can’t run from it forever, he has to take it on head first.

“Sometimes you don’t need to walk in another person’s shoes to know how they feel. Sometimes the best thing you could do is sit beside them.”

THIS LINE. It got to us on so many levels, which is why we have an entire separate post on it.
