There is no doubt that grief is something that completely consumes you. It consumes your mind. Your soul. Your body. Your thoughts. The sounds you hear. The sights you see. The tastes you taste. The feelings you feel. I know what you’re going through. l know that grief and depression are immeasurably and indescribably difficult to cope with; but not impossible.
There are things we can all do to feel even the slightest bit better. One method I swear by is exercise.
Seriously! The answer is exercise and it’s amazing! Not only does it keep your body healthy, but it keeps your mind healthy too!
Exercising will increase blood flow to your brain allowing it to almost immediately function better. A plethora of neurotransmitters, like endorphins, serotonin and dopamine, are triggered when you exercise. These neurotransmitters are well-known for their role in mood control; meaning you will literally feel happier and lighter.
Now here are 10 exercise ideas to get those neurotransmitters going:
- Go for a jog
- Go for a bike ride
-
Do some calming yoga exercises
-
Dance like no one is watching
-
Meet a friend for a walk
-
Walk your dog/cat/bird/squirrel (catch our drift?)
-
Go swimming
-
Enroll in a Zumba class
-
Kick butt while kick-boxing
-
Jump rope (yes this is appropriate and fun at any age!)
-
Weight/strength training
Sometimes the first step to feeling better is literally taking a step. So, go ahead and take your first step on the path to peace and relief.
