Last night we live tweeted the second episode of Chasing Life and this is the one quote that really stood out: “It’s never a good time to get this kind of news”
It’s never a good time to find out you have cancer. To find out that someone has Alzheimer’s. There’s never a good time to lose someone. They’ll always be too damn young – no matter what.
But, like April has shown us in every episode of Chasing Life so far, living through these moments isn’t an option. Making an effort to live out loud no matter what, that’s where your true power comes from.
April finally told her best friend, Beth, last night that she had cancer. Beth and her uncle are now the only two people who know. It literally took a huge load off of April to be able to say it out loud. She still has a long way to go – she hasn’t told her family, the guy she’s dating, or her boss yet – but knowing April she’ll get there and find a way to laugh along the way.
The episode provided a lot of laughs – Dominic’s roommate and his hate of spam email, for one. It also had a lot of hard moments. April is slowly telling people that she has cancer, but unfortunately she keeps putting off getting the necessary tests. Her uncle, aka her doctor, had to lay it out for her bluntly yesterday, his exact words, “You have cancer.” It’s a fact. It’s a hard fact, but a fact nonetheless.
We’ve all been there…being forced to face something we rather not.
What advice would you give April? How should she approach telling her family + everyone else in her life?
