Chasing Life Recap: The BIG Secret Is Finally Revealed…to some

Let it be known that Episode 5 of Chasing Life is the most emotional one thus far. The tears? They basically start from the very beginning.

The episode opens to April dreaming about a “regular” day with her mom, sister, and wait for it…dad! This is the first time Chasing Life has let us in on who April’s dad was and how he interacted with his family. While we were mixed up in the feels of this dream, it took a sec to realize that April wasn’t actually dreaming, she had passed out at the kitchen counter. Cue Mama Beth realizing something’s up with April.

The episode then turns into a hodgepodge of different story lines all centered on (1) April’s other sister and (2) April’s leukemia.

After a rather spooky interaction with a psychic at the beginning of the episode, April decides its time to really dive into the mystery of this unknown sister. At one point she says that she’s not as scared about what she’s going to find out about this sister, it’s implied that what she’s most scared of is what this will tell her about her dad.

All of April’s detective work leads her to her uncle’s office, where she confronts him with some visual proof that he just can’t deny. Not even 2 minutes later we learn where April gets her detective skills from. Beth has followed April to her uncle’s office and confronts him on why April is taking the pills she found in her room.

All this confrontation end up in an intervention a la Chasing Life. Beth thinks April has a drug problem, Brenna knows the truth, grandma is sitting there expectedly, and Uncle George gives April an ultimatum, “either you tell them or I will.”

Cue the tears.

While still reeling from the intervention, George gets a call with April’s biopsy results. She needs to get immediate attention and this makes her run scared.

The episode ends off with one of the most powerful quotes of the season:

“Life is always going to throw you curve balls, you can’t control that. All you can do is keep swinging.”

Don’t we know it.

Next week’s episode promises to be as emotional. Oh and if you were wondering why I didn’t mention April telling Dominic, it’s because she hasn’t…yet.

Thoughts on this week’s episode?
