“Life is a dream and dying is waking up to all the loved ones you ever lost, putting on coffee and making you breakfast.”
This morning while practicing my morning ritual of scrolling through Instagram, I came across a post that really hit me.
Rachel Brathen is a yogi living in Aruba while simultaneously traveling the world and spreading her ideas of love, happiness and self-empowerment. Her daily Instagram posts, with the name yoga_girl, are mostly composed of inspiring words and almost always reach over 35,000 likes.
Anyone following her page is well aware of her love for animals and her family of dogs. Recently, she lost her best friend and her dog, Pepper, and has been open with her followers about the continuous grief she is feeling. This morning’s post centered around the idea that maybe life is the dream while death is just another world.
It’s always comforting to think that we will see our loved ones again, that when we die, they will be there to welcome us with hugs and kisses. Whether you believe this in a religious aspect, or you believe in multiple worlds, the idea that our loved ones are living happily in another place is enough to give us strength to live.
How nice is it to imagine the day when we will be able to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee with those we’ve lost?
I often wonder what makes life any more real than what happens after someone dies. What makes this life more real than this so-called afterlife? Sometimes life feels like the dream. Especially in the moments that are most monumental to us. Perhaps the here and now is just a dream and the inevitable future is another world to experience.
