While summer has always been, and probably always will be, my favorite season, I have learned to appreciate the fall and all that it has to offer. After a hectic summer filled with barbeques, outdoor concerts and vacations, fall brings a sense of new life. As F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote in The Great Gatsby:
“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”
1. Pumpkin Flavored EVERYTHING
If you’re like me, or most 20-something girls for that matter, you wait patiently as fall nears for the arrival of the Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte. The warm, sweet, spiced latte is the perfect welcoming to the new season. Along with the coffee drink, fall brings even more pumpkin-flavored deliciousness. From cheesecakes, to wine, to soup, there’s not much that isn’t made better by some pumpkin flavor.
2. New TV Shows
All summer we’ve tried to take advantage of the warm weather and allow our bodies to soak in some Vitamin D. Now that the weather is getting colder, we’re ready to return to our rightful spots on the couch to enjoy some primetime TV. I’m not ashamed, okay, maybe I’m a little ashamed, to admit that I look forward to a specific show at least six nights out of the week. And with fall coming, I welcome these shows back into my living room. Chicago Fire, The Big Bang Theory and Vampire Diaries are just three of the shows I’m most excited to dote over.
3. Apple Picking
Going apple picking is easily one of my favorite fall activities. It’s a chance for my friends and I to still enjoy the outdoors before the cold winter arrives. While it’s not particularly physically demanding, it gets our bodies moving. The crisp, fresh air is just what the body needs sometimes. Not only is the act of apple picking a great time, but the activities that follow are just as rewarding. Just think of all the baking and, therefore, eating one can do with a bag full of freshly picked apples.
4. Warm Days/Chilly Nights While I always miss the hot days of summer, I do not miss the sweltering nights when I’m throwing my bed sheets all around and sweating trying to sleep. The beginning of fall is just the perfect mix of the two seasons. The days are still warm enough to enjoy while the nights are chilly enough to call for snuggling in bed with blankets.
5. Fall Foliage
For those lucky enough to live in New England, fall brings the beauty of leaves changing. Slowly and then all at once, the leaves change from a vibrant green to a mix of reds, oranges and yellows. While I complain about the long winters and short summers, fall in New England is truly a sight to see.
