Joan Rivers has died today, September 4, at 81 years old.
Melissa Rivers, daughter of Joan Rivers, released the following on the death of her mother:
“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.”
Rivers, comedian known for being outspoken and controversial, was admitted to the hospital last week where she was on life support after suffering cardiac arrest as a complication during a surgery on her vocal cords.
She is remembered for her honesty and her ability to make people around the world laugh. Most recently she is known as host of the E! hit show, Fashion Police.
Melissa Rivers ended her statement saying, “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
