Red Band Society Episode 3, Liar, Liar Pants On Fire Recap

“You weren’t afraid you were going to die. You were afraid you were going to live.”

Sparks were flying at Ocean Park Hospital last night and the Red Band Society was caught smack in the middle.

From Emma and Leo to Jordi and Emma, back to Emma and Leo, a lot of truths were revealed. (Ironic given the title of the episode was “Liar, Liar Pants On Fire.”

Most of the episode was centered on the inevitable love triangle between Jordi, Leo and Emma. Jordi is really into Emma and Emma seems to be really into him. This does not bode well for Leo, who warns Jordi off of Emma, because he still thinks things are “still kinda unfished” for him and Emma. Emma did not seem to get this memo.

For one, throughout the whole episode she’s going out of her way for Jordi. (The girl made him Rice Krispies, if this doesn’t scream crush I don’t know what does.) There’s also the small detail that at the end of the episode she completely friendzones Leo. 🙁

But, Emma isn’t Jordi’s only (or biggest) problem. In Episode 3 we welcome Jordi’s mom. Yup. It turns out Jordi was playing it fast and loose with the definition of “dead” because his mom is well and alive. Jordi redeems himself from this MAJOR lie by sharing why she’s dead to him — this involves a lot of mentions of gambling.

Two more moments really drive the entire episode. leo & em

The first is a really big blowup between Leo and Emma. In the scene Leo is trying to explain to Emma that his need to jump to rash decisions and to protect her from a time in which he was sure he was going to die is the reason why they broke up. Emma is not taking any of it. She says to him, “you weren’t afraid you were going to die, you were afraid you were going to live” and that’s why the broke up. Because in Emma’s mind Leo was afraid that he would be stuck with her if he did live and that he thought she wouldn’t live up to his idea of the stereotypical girlfriend (aka a Cara).

As mentioned before things did not end off well for Leo. As of last night he has a permanent seat in the friendzone. (We’re still #TeamLemma though.)

The second major moment was between Jordi and his mom. In an effort to get rid of his mom Jordi suggests playing a card game where the bet is her staying or leaving and signing off her rights as a parent. Everything is set up for Jordi to win and then…he throws the game. With a full house. He apparently wants her to stay. She’ll be back next episode, but the verdict is still out on her.
