Whether you’re a fan of Taylor Swift’s new sound or not, there’s no way to deny that she has a way with words. One of her biggest strengths will always be her songwriting and how the lyrics to her songs can so easily relate to any person, in any moment of their life.
Even though Swift’s new song, “Out of the Woods”, is rumored to be about her relationship with Harry Styles (1/5 of One Direction), it can easily be applied to any situation where you may feel like you’re standing on shaky ground.
After someone you love dies, you hold your breath for a while. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop. (Especially when things start to go well.) One way or another, you also start asking yourself, “are we out of the woods? are we in the clear yet?”
Here are 4 ways to know if you’re out of the woods:
(1) Things feel right. Nothing’s close to perfect, but you’ve stopped watching the clock a bit.
(2) You laugh. I don’t mean you just “LOL”, I mean, like you actually laugh out loud again. Whether you’re watching your favorite TV show or laughing at absolutely nothing with your friends. You’re laughing. Be proud!
(3) You feel secure. Losing someone you love, especially if it’s someone very close to you, makes you feel like the rug was pulled out from right under you. You know you’re out of the woods when the floor has finally stopped shaking.
(4) You’re no longer running from…anything. You’re okay with crying. You’re okay with not crying. You’re okay with feeling just about anything once you’re out of the woods. Because by walking through the woods, as Taylor Swift puts it, “the monsters turned out to be just trees.”
