If there’s one thing that every single episode of Red Band Society has taught us is that life is hard, but having a strong (and caring) support system can make it better. Red Band Society’s episode 8 does not disappoint.

Last night a pre-med, strip club bouncer gently reminded the world of this. Leo, Dash and Jordi were trying to acquire some “boobs” in order to get Charlie to respond, but they were met with a strong opponent. Leo dramatized his cancer story and made it seem like he was 5 seconds away from collapsing at the door of the strip club, but he did so without realizing the bouncer was pre-med.

The bouncer very nicely turned them down and then said a line that should be quoted everywhere:

“Keep fighting the good fight”

As Charlie fights to completely come out of the coma, Emma is fighting her right to recover at her own pace, simply to give Leo what she thinks he wants.

The biggest fight of last night’s Red Band Society is without a doubt between Kara and Hunter (yes, resident badboy at Ocean Park Hospital). According to Hunter’s sister, Hunter had leukemia and his liver problems come from medicine that helped him beat the cancer. His sister has come to the hospital to donate part of her liver (a low-risk procedure), but Hunter’s not having any of it.

Kara tries to convince him to take his sister’s offer, but as she argues and berates him for allowing himself to die. She learns an important lesson that she then tells his sister (as Hunter eavesdrops from behind a wall.)

“When you’re a sick person you want to be sick on your own terms, so you try to find things you can control. This decision is one last thing Hunter can control. It’s not much, but  it’s all he’s got, and I wouldn’t take that away from him…”

The same goes with the way you grieve any kind of loss — it’s all on your own terms. You control how much you tell, how much you allow others to help, you draw the line in the sand. And that’s more than alright.

Even though Thanksgiving is next week, there will still be a new episode of Red Band Society. There’s a high likelihood that Emma will crack and end up telling Leo she’s not actually eating and that his insistence isn’t really helping. (We all know he means well, but come on…) Hopefully there are more improvements with Charlie and we’ll just have to wait and see what becomes of Kara and Hunter.

OH, for all those Bella Thorne fans out there she’ll be making a guest appearance next week.
