There’s always one line in a book, movie or new show that always sticks with you. These are the phrases you Instagram and tweet out with the hashtag #YES.

As I was reading Amy Poehler’s Yes Please, I found many lines with which I wanted to scream #YESPLEASE.

Below are lines (that for many, different reasons) I was drawn to:

  1. Writing is hard. (Technically a chapter title, but still so true)

  2. I believe great people do things before they are ready.

  3. Decide what your currency is early. Let go of what you will never have. People who do this are happier and sexier.

  4. Going from crying to laughing that fast and hard happens maybe five times in your life and that extreme right turn is the reason why we are alive, and I believe it extends our life by many years.

  5. I am reaching out because life goes by fast. I don’t want my one life to go by without expressing this to you.

  6. Any painful experience makes you see things differently.

  7. Someday you will wake up feeling 51 percent happy and slowly, molecule by molecule, you will feel like yourself again.

  15. Everybody is scared most of the time.

  16. Emotions are like passing storms, and you have to remind yourself that it won’t rain forever.

  17. Change is the only constant. Your ability to navigate and tolerate change and its painful uncomfortableness directly correlates to your happiness and general well-being.

  18. I believe you can time-travel three different ways: with people, places, and things.

  19. You have to be where you are to get where you need to go.

  20. He was the first important person in my life to die, and when he did, it was the first time I realized that life was not fair or safe or even ours to own. I miss him.

  21. I was looking for comfort. I was uncomfortable.

  22. Thinking about the future was a luxury.

  23. A person’s tragedy does not make up their entire life. A story carves deep grooves into our brains each time we tell it. But we aren’t one story. We can change our stories.

  24. The only way we will survive is by being kind. The only way we can get by in this world is through the help we receive from others. No one can do it alone, no matter how great the machines are.
