If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan than you know that last week the head of the Gilmore Girls family, Richard Gilmore, passed away. Edward Herrmann died at the age of 71 from GLioblastoma, a brain tumor.

A YouCaring.com page set up by his family explains that Edward suffered from a seizure exactly one year before he passed away. It was this seizure and subsequent visit to the hospital that led to the discovery of the tumor.

“Ed became very involved in learning about his own disease, and worked on several related projects during this past year, in spite of his own illness,” states the website.

It’s with this in mind that Ed’s family wants to extend his legacy into a fund dedicated to brain cancer research, as well as a memorial to the magnificent man he was.

We may not have been able to know him personally, but Ed brought life to a character that made its way into every Gilmore Girls fan’s heart. He is our Mr.Gilmore, grandpa and beloved friend.

Follow in the footsteps of Lauren Graham (aka Lorelai Gilmore) and visit this page to donate.
