After my grandmother passed away I had a really hard time eating. I don’t know if it was the stress or getting used to eating only snacks at the hospital, but man was it hard.
Then I came across the best piece of advice I can offer anyone who is going through the death of a loved one: eat what you can’t imagine not eating.
A visit to Panera Bread was my trigger to regaining my appetite. Now whenever I feel like eating is more of a chore or being sad distracts me to the point where I forget that I have to eat, I trick myself with breakfast for lunch.
Or with any snack that will open up my appetite.
The days after someone dies, all those who are around you will put food in front of you and remind you that you have to eat. Then they leave and you’re left to remind yourself. You have to try and remind yourself….or put an alarm on your phone. (Speaking from experience here.)
After my Grandma Evans died on September 28th, 2015, I had no appetite.
