Taylor Swift is slowly but surely becoming the queen of all things Tumblr. She’s mastered the art of Tay-lurking and has reached out to so many fans via Tumblr that there’s a guaranteed new BuzzFeed story about it every week.
The latest Taylor Swift Tumblr exchange led to a pretty amazing piece of insight for a fan who was going through a break up. Among many things, Taylor wrote:
“It’s so devastating to come to terms with speaking of someone in the past tense when you used to see them as your present and future.”
This particular insight was followed by a bunch of advice on what to do when the guy you broke up with is just completely toxic, but it can also surely relate to anyone who has experienced a different kind of loss.
One of the biggest triggers for many after losing a loved one is saying, “He/She is…” and then stopping in your tracks because your person is no longer an “is.” There’s “was”, but “will be” will no longer hold much truth.
So, Taylor’s right. It’s devastating to have the rug pulled out from under you when all along you hedged your bets on this person being around for the long run. Making the transition to past tense isn’t easy. (The only difference here is that when you break up with someone you want to leave 100% of everything in the past after a while. When it comes to having someone die, the one thing that never transitions to past tense is the love you have for them.)
Taylor Swift added a pretty awesome breakup playlist to her convo with her fan. The first four are 100% break-up songs, but the last one, “Begin Again” by Measure could very well be the silver lining you’ve been looking for.
