“All my life you’ve been that angel in disguise…”
Big Sean’s new album, Dark Sky Paradise, is slated for a February 24 release, leading up to it he’s released songs that have set the tone for what to expect. His latest addition is “One Man Can Change The World.”
“One Man Can Change the World” features Kanye West and John Legend singing the hook. Big Sean follows in West’s Only One footsteps by using music to tell the story of someone they loved and lost.
Mildred V. Leonard, passed away a little over 2 months ago, and Big Sean was very honest in how hard he was taking her death.
In an Instagram post he started by saying:
“I’m having a hard time accepting her death, but I must acknowledge my grandma’s life, a true hero.”
In his new song he raps about how his grandmother broke down many barriers as one of the first African-American, female captains in World War 2. In his Instagram, like in his song, he really emphasizes how her being the “best grandma anyone could ask for,” is what gave him the confidence to pursue his dreams and never count himself out.
His Instagram caption ends with, “She made a better life for me and the rest of my family, and I will forever be grateful I got to know and be loved by such an amazing woman! I’m so proud of her. She was truly a treasure to this world and everyone she came in contact with. She’s the reason why I’m so passionate about giving back. Her spirit will live through her family. We miss and love u so much Grandma!”
