By far, this is probably the most stress inducing question anyone can ask me. When I’m getting to know a new guy, it’s almost always one of the firsts asked, so you would think by now I have a scripted answer. I don’t.
Here’s why — for most of the years when I should’ve been doing something fun in my free time, I was taking care of another human being. My time was divided into what I did for school, work and family. Yeah there were fun moments that happened inside those 3 major divisions, but they weren’t things I brainstormed and decided I was going to do.
Lately, I’ve been trying to answer this question for myself. So far I’ve learned that I hate going to any place in NYC where tourists frequent (sorry), I love trying new bars and restaurants and I’m a fan of NYC’s parks. (Riverside Park will always be my favorite, but the more hidden parts of Central Park are a close second.)
I have a thing for finding bookstores that aren’t a Barnes & Noble (my recent find is La Casa Azul).
Answering this question still brings me back to a semi-sad place, but there’s something about not having an answer that also makes life a little more unpredictable and fun.
